Summer Wrap-up Read-a-thon: Goals and Challenges

Hello and welcome back! It’s August 4 which means that the Summer Wrap-up Read-a-Thon has just started! I know, I know… August is a terribly busy month since I’m taking part in not one but three read-a-thons on top of Review Copy Cleanup. For more information and sign ups, just click on the image :)

Since August is all about review books here on Books, Biscuits, and Tea, I’m going to try and read some of my review books during SWUR. My goal is to read 3 books before August 12 but next week’s going to be quite busy so … we’ll see. One of them is quite short (150 or 160 pages I think) so I hope it’s not impossible. :)

The books I’m aiming to read:

Summer Wrap-Up Read-A-Thon

The Life of Rebecca Jones by Angharad Price
The Mistress’s Revenge by Tamar Cohen
Call Down Thunder by Daniel Finn

The read-a-thon includes several challenges and giveaways as well – I’m not going to do individual posts for each challenge because there’s LOTS of them but I’ll keep updating this post instead. I’ll try to update it daily if I have enough time :)

Challenges

August 4Wicked Summer Cover Challenge, hosted by Wickedly Bookish

The first challenge is sort of a cover scavenger hunt, in which you try to find certain summery items on book covers. This challenge runs for the duration of the RAT so you will have a chance to not only find the items on the books you read, but also on the books other Summer Wrap-Up RAT participants are reading. There are lots of items on the list but here are the ones I’ve found so far:

Swimming pool: Swimming Pool Sunday by Madaleine Wickham
Sunglasses: The Disenchantments by Nina LaCour
Sunset: Halo by Alexandra Adornetto
Sunflower: Remember Me? by Sophie Kinsella
Sailboat: Unbreak My Heart by Melissa Walker

Me too! And it helped me an awful lot already :) Although updating all these page count widgets gets quite confusing after a while!
      Good luck!!

I think we’re both crazy for taking on so much this August lol. I feel like I’ve hardly had time to read since all the challenges and read-a-thons started, but I’m going to try to set aside a few hours this afternoon and tonight and get as much read as possible. Good luck, you know I’ll be cheering you on! <3

We are! But you know what, it actually did help me – I started reading my books on July 27 or 28 I think and I’m on book 3 right now (almost done). It’s great motivation, even though keeping track of your progress and what’s going on is a bit confusing when you have 3 readathons at the same time xD

I hope you’ll manage to get some reading done tonight!! <3

Good stack of books you got there! I’m reading all review books for the read-a-thon too because I forgot I signed up for it so I didn’t set aside any different books! Thanks for stopping by my post!

Great goals. I wish I were comfortable writing reviews. But each time I do, it’s more like a fifth-grade book report than a decent review, so I don’t publish it. I do share *what* I’m reading and sometimes *why* I’m reading. And my blog contains info on *where* I’m reading and *how*. But no reviews. You have my admiration.

Good luck, happy reading, get off Twitter, make tea, etc etc, and here’s to some awesome reading this week! :)

I think i’m super duper late for this comment but just think it’s the day you posted this. Anyway, moving on to what i came here to comment here for…

Nice picks! I’m challenging myself to read 4 four books and if i do reach my goal before this Read-a-Thon ends i added another book. Right now i’m reading Slide by Jill Hathaway and i’m loving it! It’s seriously addicting!

I hope you reach you goals and happy reading! :)

    Hi Vicky,
I found your blog on a random search of Val McDermid and am really pleased to see that your favorite genres are very similar to mine. I read pretty much anything, but mystery and crime are way up there, and my favorite all-time authors are Agatha Christie, Patricia Cornwell (of old) and Val McDermid (Tony Hill series as well as before that).

I saw a post of yours from June where you were about to start on a Val McDermid; I hope you liked it. The TV series Wire in the Blood, based on the Tony Hill books is also fantastic.

I’ll definitely be coming back to this blog !!

    • Vicky says:

Thanks a million! I had to take a break this summer and then I was trying to catch up with review books so I haven’t had time to read the Val McDermid book yet, but I’m sure I’ll enjoy it!

I love crime fiction as well! I’m so glad we’ve similar taste in books :) Have you read anything by Tana French? She has to be my newest favourite.
