Showcase Sunday #73

Inspired by Pop Culture Junkie and the Story Siren, the aim of Showcase Sunday is to highlight our newest books or book related swag and to see what everyone else received for review, borrowed from libraries, bought in bookshops and downloaded onto eReaders each week. Aloha! How are you all? Did you have a nice week? Mine seemed agonizingly slow for some reason. I don’t know if it’s the weather (unlike last week, we didn’t see much sunshine here) or something else but I thought this week would never end. The only thing that cheered me up was that a friend and I are on a weekend break. :D By the time you read this post I’ll be somewhere in rainy Warwickshire, probably in Stratford-upon-Avon (Shakespeare’s birthplace) doing touristy things. I was hoping for a bit of sunshine but the weather forecast is looking pretty grim, to be honest. What are your weekend plans?

I actually only got one book this week but as soon as I posted last week’s Showcase Sunday, I realised I forgot to show you two books I got earlier that week. Oh well, better late than never!

Silent Saturday | A Pleasure and a Calling | The Little Old Lady Who Broke All The Rules

The first book I forgot to show you is Silent Saturday by Helen Grant, which was a review copy from Pan Macmillan and which is the first book in the Forbidden Spaces trilogy. It’s a YA mystery/thriller, which is great because I don’t get to read YA crime fiction too often. The Goodreads reviews seem quite promising so I’m hoping it’s a good book.

A Pleasure and a Calling was a giveaway win from Goldsboro Books. The book (which is also signed and personalized) came with a signed tote bag, which I absolutely love. I adore tote bags so it was a lovely surprise. :)

The Little Old Lady Who Broke All the Rules arrived on Friday afternoon and was also a giveaway win from Compelling Reads. I love books that make you laugh out loud so I’m really looking forward to this one. I have a feeling it’s going to be hilarious!

Have you read any of these books yet? Did you like them?

I LOVE the sound of The Little Old Lady Who Broke All the Rules – it looks like one of those different, quirky kind of reads and I look forward to hearing your thoughts :)

The weather is actually pretty great here in SE London this weekend, so hope you’re having (surprisingly!) lovely weather in Stratford-Upon-Avon too! x

Saturday was surprisingly dry but it was raining pretty much all morning on Sunday. Still, it wasn’t as bad as we thought it would be and we did get a bit of sunshine in the afternoon. :)

Hope you had a lovely weekend! x

  4. I hope you’re currently having a wonderful time :) :) I agree it’s been a long week here too, Stephen’s been working late all week and it’s seemed neverending. It’s not very good weather here so me and Stephen are having a movie day inside.

I hope you enjoy your books – AND I LOVE YOUR TOTE BAG! I absolutely love tote bags and where it’s signed too…oh it’s beautiful :)

Movie night sounds lovely, that’s what I’m planning for this weekend. :) What did you watch?

Here’s to a shorter and sunnier week! xxxxx

  5. Awesome haul1 Signed stuff just wins everything :D And the book by Hogan looks great as well. The Little Old Lady Who Broke All the Rules looks awesome too, is it from the same author as the old guy that jumped through the window or something? Both have such cute titles :D

My week would have been better if there wasn’t so much snow! It’s supposed to be Spring now lol.
Have fun on your trip! I plan on relaxing and reading all afternoon, maybe some house decorating.
I haven’t read any of those books, but it’s cool you got a signed tote bag too!

Snow! Oh God. And I thought rain and chilly weather was bad. It’s almost April, it’s not supposed to snow, for God’s sake :D Sounds like you had a nice and quiet weekend, though! (That’s what I’m planning to do this week)

oh a YA Mystery/thriller? Maybe it is the blogs I go around but it is very rare I see one of those. I hope you enjoy it because it looks really good. The only YA mystery I have read is Crusher by Nial Leonard (E.L James’s husband?!) and that was pretty good.

The Little Old Lady Who Broke All the Rules looks kind of link The Hundred Year Old Man Who Walked Out of His Window which was really good! The covers are similar too! :)

You were lucky on the giveaway front this week, especially that tote bag. I carry one with me all of the time now :3

I hope you enjoy all of your books this from this week! :)

Ps: after a lot of consideration I have just moved to worpress! :) I read your post on the comparison and the free version seems as good, some things you have to pay for though, which is a bummer! but overall it is good :)

I think I’ve had the opposite problem to you – this week has seemed fast and I know next week will feel slow! I’m up visiting my other half at uni this weekend so I’ve been busy prepping for that all week (plus a few days to go is just much more bearable than weeks to go!).

Hope you’re enjoying Stratford-upon-Avon, and that the weather isn’t too bad :) I’m in Wales for the weekend and the weather’s not been too bad, just unpredictable.

I’m intrigued by Silent Saturday, although it wasn’t one I’d heard of before. Have a lovely weekend and enjoy your books :)

Thank you! :) The weather was surprisingly good on Saturday (chilly, but not too bad) but it was raining all morning on Sunday. *sigh* Oh well. We did have a great time, though.

Hope you had a lovely weekend!

  20. My week was extremely slow too. Just wouldn’t end. And it for sure definitely has to do with the terrible weather. C’mon spring!
    All three books sounds great!
    Happy reading, Vicky!

    • Vicky says:

I know, awful weather doesn’t really help, does it? I checked out the weather forecast for the rest of the week and it’s not looking great either – rain and freezing cold all week. (I know it’s England, but still. It’s almost April!)

Thanks for stopping by, Brittany – happy reading!
