Hello everyone! How are you all? How was your week? I’m so sorry I missed last week’s post – a friend and I went to Dover on Saturday (we ended up walking 11 miles uphill but it was totally worth it, the coast is beautiful and the weather was gorgeous! I mean, 20 degrees in early March! In England!) and I was completely exhausted by the time I got home. We met up for lunch in London the next day and I was in such a hurry that I didn’t have time to write my post before I left. So… I have two weeks worth of books to show you today. *drumroll* Ready?

Showcase Sunday #72

Wedding Night | Fangirl | Landline
Forty Days without Shadow
| Astonish Me | The Way Back Home

Lots of exciting books this week, including three review books I wasn’t expecting at all and the new Sophie Kinsella book! Sophie has been one of my favourite authors ever since I was about 15 so her new book went to the very top of my wish list when it first came out. I managed to find a relatively cheap edition on The Book Depository and pre-ordered it some time last year – and it’s finally here! I’ve been trying to catch up on my review books in the past few months but now that I have my copy of Wedding Night, I might have to put those ARCs aside for a couple of days… 😀

Exciting goodie number 2 and 3: Fangirl and Landline! I seriously cannot tell you how many of you told me to read Fangirl but knowing how hyped-up it was, I was a bit sceptical. I don’t know why but popular books usually make me feel that way and I’m scared that they wouldn’t live up to my expectations. BUT. *holds up index finger* Literally all the reviews I’ve read so far (quite many) were great, so… I’ll give it a try and cross my fingers that it’s as good as I hope it is and I’ll fall in love with Rowell’s writing like so many of you did. A big thank you to Emmi from Library Girl for the book! And as you can see, I also got a copy of Landline, which is the author’s next novel, to be published at the end of July. Many thanks to Orion for the review copy!

These were the three books I was waiting for in the past two weeks, but surprisingly, another three other review books turned up. I’m not sure Astonish Me will be my cup of tea but I like the sound of Forty Days without Shadow (crime fiction) and The Way Back Home (women’s fiction). Thank you to Hachette and HarperCollins for the books!

Have you read any of these books yet? Did you like them?

I completely agree with you regarding overhyped books, I’ve fallen trap to this on several occasions (even if the book was good it just couldn’t live up to the hype) and like you I’ve only read rave reviews regarding Fangirl. Hope it manages to be as good as you expect it to be though :)

Same here! :) Although it’s not always the case, sometimes they turn out to be brilliant. Fingers crossed Fangirl is going to be great.

OOOOOH WEDDING NIGHT! I absolutely loved it and I really hope you enjoy it too…Sophie K is just wonderful :)

I’m also slightly worried about Fangirl too, I worry that with all the hype, in my mind I’ll be expecting high things so I’m hoping that when I eventually get round to it it’s great! I can’t wait to hear what you think of it, and Landline too :)

It sounds like you had a fun time in Dover – and the weather has been stunning, it’s beautiful on the South Coast today 😀 Stephen and me have a walk along the beach planned for this afternoon :)

    Have a beautiful Sunday!

She is! I pretty much loved all of her previous books so I’m sure I’ll love this one. :)

I know, the weather’s been great lately – I just hope it doesn’t start raining this week. I’m off to Stratford-upon-Avon for the weekend so the weather forecast scared me a little bit. :(

Fangirl was quite enjoyable, in my opinion. Also super cool that the UK paperback comes with bonus content, I kind of hate when publishers do that. I got a signed copy of the hardcover, so I don’t need to buy the paperback, but I want the bonus stuffs!! Hope you enjoy both of Rowell’s books. I was excited for Landline until I found out it was an adult novel, and I just haven’t quite gotten around to enjoying fiction with older characters…I’m still in my YA phase, haha. :)

Yeah, it’s a bit unfair when only certain editions have bonus content. I haven’t read any of her books yet so it wouldn’t really bother me, but I know how annoying it must be for someone who’s a big fan.

I hope you had fun in Dover! I’m so jealous that the weather has been good down in England. It’s been pretty awful up here.
Wedding Night! I read that one last year and it was just as hilarious as her other books. You’re definitely going to love it :)
Fangirl! I loooooove Fangirl. But I have seen a few people who haven’t been as impressed by it as everyone else. I really hope you enjoy it :)
Landline! I’m DYING to get my hands on a copy of that one. The cover is so pretty <3
Oooh, I think I'll be adding The Way Back Home to my TBR list. It sounds intriguing.
Great haul, Vicky! Happy reading 😀

We had an amazing time. :) And the weather was gorgeous! Although the weather forecast isn’t looking too good for this weekend, so I’m slightly worried. (I’m away for the weekend)

I know, I’ve heard some people say they didn’t like the romance in the book but I really hope I’ll enjoy it like most of you did. :)

I’m with you on the Rowell front! I’ve got all of her books but haven’t read a single word of her work yet. Definitely need to get that sorted. Awesome haul and glad to see you’re enjoying the UK 😀 x

I loved Fangirl, I had read one of Rowell’s other books previously and not had the best experience, but adored Fangirl, so I hope you do to! I also can’t wait to start reading my copy of Landline! I hope you enjoy all your books Vicky! :)

Same here! I started reading her books when I was about 16 and haven’t read any more until last year. I loved her previous two books so fingers crossed Wedding Night is just as good. :)

Great haul, Vicky! I’m a huge fan of Rainbow Rowell! I really enjoyed Fangirl, but I preferred Eleanor and Park. I am so excited for Landline, and so jealous that you have it!

I love Freya North! I haven’t read her latest few novels, but I’ve read most of her novels, and she’s awesome! A really funny author! Really hope you enjoy The Way Back Home!

Thanks, Jo! I know a few people who were the exact opposite – they loved Fangirl but didn’t like E&P – so I’m really looking forward to reading it and seeing what all this hype is about. :)

*hugs book protectively* It’s mineeee! 😀 I know you loved Fangirl (along with literally everyone I talk to on Twitter) so I hope I’ll be a fan too.

      Happy reading, Lucy!
