Showcase Sunday #68

Inspired by Pop Culture Junkie and the Story Siren, the aim of Showcase Sunday is to highlight our newest books or book related swag and to see what everyone else received for review, borrowed from libraries, bought in bookshops and downloaded onto eReaders each week. For more information about how this feature works and how to join in, click here.

Hello everyone and welcome to the first Showcase Sunday in February! *throws confetti* How are you? What have you been up to? I spent last weekend in London and didn’t have time to post a book haul, so I have two weeks’ worth of books to show you today. :)

Showcase Sunday #68

Now is Good | This is the Life

Now is Good (also published as Before I Die) was a gift from Faye from A Daydreamer’s Thoughts. After seeing the trailer literally every single day and realizing Sarah Hadland had a cameo role in it I decided to watch the movie a few months ago and it completely broke my heart. I actually didn’t realize it was based on a book until Faye asked me if I wanted anything from her pile of books and I saw it among them. It’s a beautiful story and I’m sure the book will be just as heartbreaking and powerful as the movie was.

I already posted about This is the Life in yesterday’s posts, since it’s one of my picks for this month’s Review Copy Cleanup. Many thanks to HarperCollins for the review copy!

Flora in Love | Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea

If you follow me on Twitter you might have seen that I attended the Faber & Faber blogger tea on Saturday, which was really fun. I will post about it in more detail and highlight some of their upcoming books later on but I wanted to show you what was in our goody bags. 😀 Each of us were given a Faber & Faber tote bag (which is probably one of the coolest tote bags I own – I love cats!) filled with two review copies. I’ve been meaning to read more middle-grade fiction for a while so I’m really excited about Flora in Love. Although, as it turns out, it’s the second book in the series so it probably won’t make much sense until I’ve read After Iris. On my wish list it goes!

    Nice haul.

I love your Faber & Faber bag.

I’ve yet to read Now Is Good/Before I Die, but I agree about the film. Dakota Fanning gave a brutally honest, yet life affirming, portrayal as Tessa.

This Is The Life sounds like a great book and I’ve added it on to my wish list.

I hope that you enjoy your reads and have a lovely weekend.

Please feel free to check out my haul for this week at http://thewanderingbookworm.wordpress.com/2014/02/01/book-haul-1-february-2014/

I loved the movie of Now Is Good. It completely broke me though. It was beautiful <3 I didn't know it was a book either until after I'd watched the movie. I think I'll definitely have to get it at some point. It's bound to be even more heartbreaking than the movie.
I love the tote bag! It's so cute! And I love that cover for Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea. It's so purple and beautiful.
Great haul, Vicky! Happy reading! 😀

Great haul, Vicky! Before I Fall/Now Is Good is amazing! I read the book first, so wasn’t much impressed with the movie. The book is just so heartbreaking. I loved it! Intrigued by This is the Life, I’ve not heard of it before. The Goodreads summary doesn’t give you very much, but I’ll be interested to see your review! :) Happy reading!

Are they very different? I wasn’t a big fan of Tessa (or the way the actress played her, anyway) so I’m really looking forward to reading the book!

I think they’re mostly different in feeling. The book is a little more emotional, I think. Tessa can be a right cow at times and not the easiest to like, but it’s understandable and you’re able to sympathise. Like, I didn’t like the things she did or the way she acted, but I liked her. In the movie, I think she was kind of flat and 2D, but I believe that’s down to Dakota Fanning. It’s such a beautiful book! Downham’s second book, You Against Me, is awesome too!
