Inspired by Pop Culture Junkie and the Story Siren, the aim of Showcase Sunday is to highlight our newest books or book related swag and to see what everyone else received for review, borrowed from libraries, bought in bookshops and downloaded onto eReaders each week. Hello, hello! How are you all? How was your week? I had quite a weird couple of days, to be honest. The weather’s been insanely hot for the past few weeks (around 38-40 °C) and it’s verging on unbearable now. I was out with a friend earlier this week when I realized I wasn’t feeling too well. Turns out I probably had a sunstroke because I’ve been feeling dizzy, weak and quite nauseous ever since. Grrrr! And not only that but the heat is not helping with blogging either. All I want to do is lie in bed and drink ice cold drinks, so even reading feels like a bit of challenge sometimes.
Only one physical book this week but my goodness, it’s a gorgeous one. Isn’t it pretty and oh-so-British? I literally can’t stop staring at the cover (which might be a bit of a problem if I want to read it). You can’t really see it in the photo but some of the red bits – the little bird, the double decker, the phone box and some of the leaves – are glittery which makes it even cooler. Even though it was another unsolicited copy I’m pretty sure I’m going to read it – probably not for the release day because August is going to be hectic, but in the near future. The reviews I’ve seen so far were great and it seems like something I’d enjoy so I’m hoping it’s a good one.

I was doing pretty good on the NetGalley front right until now. I logged in to have a look around the other day and I couldn’t help requesting The Troop and Ostrich. In my defence, The Troop is a 2014 release so I’ve plenty of time to read it. Hurray! Then, Harlequin contacted me and asked me if I wanted to review The Returned and since it sounds very intriguing, I couldn’t say no.
In other news, crime writer Harry Bingham stopped by the blog the other day and talked about what he thinks makes a perfect crime novel. We’re also giving away 10 copies of his first book, Talking to the Dead, so do check it out if it sounds like something you’d enjoy.
Also, I teamed up with Ulpius-ház, Hungary’s largest publishing house, and best-selling author Levente Lakatos to help him organize a blog tour for his upcoming book, LoveClub (a New Adult romantic thriller). If anyone’s interested in reviewing the book or if you’d like to join us with posting an excerpt, an interview or a giveaway then do let me know either in the comments or via email, it would be great to have you on board!
What books did you get this week? Make sure to link up your own Showcase Sunday posts in the linky below or leave me a link to your own book hauls in the comments, I’d love to see them. Happy reading and see you soon!
