Showcase Sunday #49

Inspired by Pop Culture Junkie and the Story Siren, the aim of Showcase Sunday is to highlight our newest books or book related swag and to see what everyone else received for review, borrowed from libraries, bought in bookshops and downloaded onto eReaders each week. For more information about how this feature works and how to join in, click here.

Hello everyone, nice to see you again! Sorry I haven’t been able to post more often in the past few weeks: right after passing my final exam I was hit by a reading and reviewing slump, which I’ve been struggling with ever since… I’m also on a crazy job hunting spree at the moment which is a lot more stressful than I anticipated. *sigh* Plus, my graduation ceremony is today – in fact, it’s happening right now as you’re reading this – and it also required some preparation. I was planning on starting some new features on the blog this summer but so far, it’s all been an epic fail. Fingers crossed things calm down a bit in July!

Showcase Sunday #49

The Runaway Princess by Hester Browne { for review }
Brooklyn Girls by Gemma Burgess { for review }
Wonder Women by Rosie Fiore { for review }
Wicked Autumn by G.M. Malliet { for review }
Love Story, With Murders by Harry Bingham { for review }
The Dead & the Gone by Susan Beth Pfeffer { purchased }
Talking to the Dead by Harry Bingham { for review }
The Mermaid of Brooklyn by Amy Shearn { for review }

Right. I know it’s a crazy amount. But in my defence, I didn’t request any of them! I’m still trying to stick to my New Year’s resolution – aka not requesting anything until I’m all caught up – but review books keep arriving all the same. Not that I’m complaining. :D Actually, I knew the two Harry Bingham books were on their way since Orion kindly donated them for my Crime Fiction Month feature in August, but the others were complete surprises. Oh. And I’ll be giving away 10 copies of each some time in August so keep an eye on the blog if you’re interested. :)

Many thanks to Orion, Quercus, Pan Macmillan and Constable & Robinson for the review copies!

    I can totally sympathise on the job hunting situation. Even though my postgrad isn’t finished yet it’s so stressful.

      Thanks, Kelsey and you too! :)
      I love surprises and new books, and I know that you don’t have to review unsolicited ARCs but I always feel bad for not reading them on time (or not reading them at all). Even though I know I shouldn’t. Grrr!

  13. Happy Graduation Day!

    I’ve been wanting to read the mermaid of Brooklyn it sounds really good!

  14. Fantastic new books! I’d like to read all of them. Love Story, With Murders–great title!

      *huggles* Thanks! And hope you’re feeling better too! I’m not too sure about The Runaway Princess, to be honest, but I love the sound of Wonder Women. :) I haven’t really been in the mood for chick lit lately but I’ll give this one a try.

  16. What a great haul! Wicked Autumn looks great and I love the cover on The Dead and the Gone!

    Ooh some great looking stuff! I have The Mermaid of Brooklyn too, really need to read that at some point. :-) It must be weird to keep receiving books even when you don’t request them. I very rarely get un-requested books, which is probably a good thing for me! I think it would stress me out to get so many. But still, pretty exciting to get surprises in the post! :-) Best of luck with the job searching, and hope the graduation ceremony goes well!

    • Vicky says:

      It did, thanks V! :) And I know! I’ve no idea why I get so many unrequested ones O.O It’s great to get surprises and to know that they’re thinking of you but it still stresses me out. I know you don’t have to review these books since you didn’t request them but I still feel bad whenever I don’t read them on time (or don’t read them at all)…

  18. Happy graduation day to you!!!
    Great stack of books! I haven’t been requesting anything either, but a few keep popping up, lol! I’ll never complain, but I hope to catch up by the end of the year too :)
    Happy reading!

    Happy graduation!

    Job hunting sucks a lot! I remember when I graduated university, I was so stressed looking for a job. It’s way more stressful than actually working!

      Exactly! Although it’s not job hunting itself that terrifies me, it’s what comes afterwards. Interviews? Oh dear. *shudders*

      It’s awful, isn’t it? :( I’ve been meaning to come up with a couple of new features for the blog AND catch up with reading for ages but… I just don’t feel like it. I hope it passes soon, for both of us.

      Lots of love and big hugs flying your way! x

  24. Happy graduation ceremony today and good luck catching up with your reading/reviewing! I too received the first three in your list (same publisher, hee!) and really loved the two I’ve finished so far.
