Inspired by Pop Culture Junkie and the Story Siren, the aim of Showcase Sunday is to highlight our newest books or book related swag and to see what everyone else received for review, borrowed from libraries, bought in bookshops and downloaded onto eReaders each week. Hello everyone and welcome to our very first Showcase Sunday in 2013! *does a little celebratory dance around her desk*
First things first: as you can see we have a brand new Showcase Sunday button for the new year so feel free to use it if you’re doing a SS post and you like it.
(you can open and download the original size from here or you can even use this banner)
Incoming

Sanctuary Line by Jane Urquhart (for review)
This Body of Death by Elizabeth George (purchased)
League of Strays by L.B. Schulman (from the publisher)
Vortex by Julie Cross (for review)
In the Gold of Time by Claudie Gallay (for review)
SCREAM! My copy of Vortex has finally arrived! I’ve two exams next week so I won’t be able to pick it up for a while but still. At least I can stare at it. Is anyone else reading it at the moment?
You may remember that I reviewed League of Strays a few months ago since I was part of the official blog tour and I really enjoyed this book. When the hardbacks came out, Lisa and the publishers were lovely enough to send all of us a copy so a massive thank you goes to them. Thank you! In the Gold of Time and Sanctuary Line arrived just before Christmas (talk about great timing, eh?) so thank you to Quercus for the lovely surprise (again)
. I’m not familiar with these two authors but they do sound interesting so I’ll be looking forward to reading it.
As for Christmas presents, I didn’t get any books – it’s sort of a family tradition, actually. No one really knows what type of books I like or which ones I haven’t read yet so I almost always get book vouchers instead. So a few days after Christmas I went to one of our local bookshops and picked up this Elizabeth George mystery which I can’t WAIT to read. I’ve heard so many great things about her books and even though I do own the very first book in this series, I haven’t had time to read it yet. So now’s the time to finally pick it up!
Downloaded for Kindle
(click on the covers to check out the synopsis)
Well, I went a bit crazy with ebooks in the past few weeks: but most of these books have been on my wishlist for a pretty long time and it was Christmas so surely they don’t count, do they?
they SO do. I jut HAD to read the first few pages of Wanderlove after I downloaded the book and I love it already. I can’t wait to read it! And er… yes, can you say I’ve been reading lots of thrillers lately? I’ve never actually read anything by Gardner, Bruce or Ahlborn but I’ve heard great things about all three books so I’m pretty excited about reading them. The Neighbors especially – some of the Goodreads reviews were really good!
Other goodies
I know Christmas is over but I haven’t showed you these lovely cards yet: the first one is from Karin @ Life of Karin – and look! She also sent me this super cool bookmark which I absolutely adore. I think this is my favourite bookmark so far. It’s so cute – and so me! The second one is from Pragya @ Reviewing Shelf and the third one is from Books and the City and it’s signed by some of their authors, including Ali Harris and Milly Johnson. Eeeeeeek! And I got another one from the lovely Faye but it arrived the day after I took these photos so I’ll show it to you next time
Thank you so much for thinking of me and for your lovely messages guys!
Well, that’s it, I think. What did you guys get in the past few weeks? How was your first week of 2013?
If you did a Showcase Sunday post, make sure to link up below – and feel free to leave me some comment love, you know I love reading them! PS. I’ll probably be MIA in the next few days due to my exams but I’ll be back soon. Take care everyone and see you soon! x

Lovely haul as usual, Vicky! That reminds me… I really have to read TEMPEST soon. VORTEX looks gorgeous.
I haven’t been hearing much good things about THE LEAGUE OF STRAYS, so I can’t wait to hear what you think about it.
THAT BOOKMARK IS SO CUTE.
Hope you have a great week, Vicky!

Thank you so much!
I’ve heard quite mixed things about The League of Strays but I actually ended up enjoying it. I already read and reviewed it a few months ago here.
And you should! Tempest is really good! I wasn’t a big fan of the beginning of the story but all in all, it was a great book. Can’t wait to pick up Vortex!
Hope you had a nice weekend! x
Holy Cow!! You’re so lucky to get a finished copy of League Of Strays!Happy New Year Vicky and good luck on your exams!

Aw, thank you, thank you! I know, I’m so glad to have a finished copy – it looks awesome. <3
Oooh, shiny new SS badge. May I pinch?
I had LoS from NetGalley a while back, and though there seemed to be quite a lot of hype surrounding it (negative vibes), I still read, and quite enjoyed it. It’s actually a pretty good read if you go in with your own opinion.
)
And Christmas cards off bookish friends are always cool, aren’t they?
Happy New Year to you. Enjoy your books.

Of COURSE!
And I totally agree – I’ve heard so many bad things about it before I started reading it that I was prepared for the worst. But then I ended up enjoying it and I’m really glad I have it a shot
Ooh. You’ve got “Vortex”.
I’ve heard a lot of good things about “Tempest” and I’ve yet to read it, but I’m already looking forward to “Vortex”.
As for getting “Wanderlove” on Kindle… No fair!!!
I’ve been waiting for that to come out on Kindle in the UK, but it hasn’t been released yet.
See? That’s the only reason why I’m glad Amazon won’t let me use the UK site for Kindle purchases.
By the way, I had no idea it’s not out in the UK yet. Wow.
Tempest is really good! I’ve never really read any time travel books but I enjoyed this one.
How cool, you downloaded Wanderlove
I want to read it so badly!
Happy new year!
Happy New Year!
Great haul, I’d love to see what Vortex is like, as well as League of Strays.
I saw The Neighbors as well, sounds like an amazing read.
Enjoy!

Wanderlove is SO good! It does not get enough credit! The author is super sweet too – she sent me one of her actual drawings that she did in the book

I’ve never heard of The Body of Death – and the thickness of this one is quite intimidating, lol!
Great stack! Enjoy, especially Vortex

Wanderlove was one of my favourite books last year, I can’t wait to see what you think (besides loving the first few pages). I have a couple unrelated things to tell you…First, the other day, I accidentally tweeted the wrong person when I meant to tweet you and just realized it today lol…but the tweet was that I absolutely LOVE your new blog design. Gorgeous!
And the second thing: season 3 of Downton Abbey starts tonight for me – WOOHOO! I ended up not watching it online a few months ago because my computer kept making it freeze, so I’m crazy excited to catch up. <3

It is!!
I know it took me a little while to get into the story and get used to the characters but once I did, it was really good. And I just started reading Vortex which has been even better (so far).
Wanderlove has been on my TBR list for way too long. Everything else in your haul is new to me, but that’s nothing Goodreads won’t fix in the next 10 minutes.
I hope you get to enjoy these soon and good luck with the exams.
See my haul for the week at Read. Sleep. Repeat.
Thank you so much! And I know – Wanderlove has been on my wishlist for ages, I really need to pick it up soon. By the way, I adore your blog design. It looks fab!
I have League of Strays, but I haven’t read it yet. I need to read Tempest first, but I know a lot of people loved it. Happy reading and thanks for stopping by!

It was a great book! *whispers* Just a tip: read it before you start book #2. I read it in February last year so now when I picked up the second book I realised there are many things I don’t remember and it gets quite confusing.
Wanderlove! I loooooved that book! And Reunited looks super good.
I wasn’t the biggest fan of Tempest, but I hope you like Vortex!
Enjoy all your reads, Vicky!

I know I had some issues with Tempest and I wasn’t a big fan of the two main characters at first, but for some reason I’m still looking forward to reading Vortex. I actually started reading it last night and it was pretty good so far!
Lovely haul, I am curious about the Neighbor and the Calling. Aww I love cards
Enjoy and have a great week! The Sunday Post
