Bookshelf Makeover, aka Rainbow Bookshelves

I’ve officially gone mad. I have four (or is it five already? I honestly lost count) reviews to write, emails to respond to and job applications to send in and what do I spend my entire morning with? Yes, that’s right. None of the above. Instead, I voluntarily spend three hours rearranging my bookshelf. I’m exhausted and feel a bit dizzy but it was worth every second.

Up until now, I organized my books by the authors’ last name, which was a pretty good solution and made it really easy for me to find whatever I was looking for at a given time. But it was nothing special. And it definitely didn’t look as cheerful as some of the “rainbow bookshelf” photos I’ve seen around the blogosphere in the past year. So I decided to give it a try and create my very own book rainbow this morning. And… well, I love it.

I don’t know how practical it is but at the moment, I couldn’t care less. :D I mean, look at all these colours! *flails*

How do you guys organize your bookshelves? Does it bother you if parts of a series or works of the same author are not in order or would you try something like this?

Bookshelf Tour – 2012 Edition

Bookshelf tourHello and welcome to my first ever bookshelf tour! I’ve wanted to do this post for a while now but I never actually had time to put it all together – up until now. So here we are :) My bookcase is quite small – well, in the sense that I don’t have a separate library or even several other bookcases- so I’m not going to do a video, BUT: I tried to take HQ photos so that if anyone’s looking for a new read, you can just click on the photos and zoom in.

As you can see, my bookshelves are…. crazy. The whole thing is a mess but I’m running out of space so believe me, it’s only going to get worse from now on! The top of the bookcase is full of perfumes/ perfume bottles, gifts and that sort of thing – sorry for the mess!

As for the books: I organise them (apart from ARCs and dictionaries) in alphabetical order of the authors’ surnames. I kept thinking about it a lot before I decided to re-organise my books: I know there are lots of people who organise their books by colour,  by genre or in any other way but for me, this one seemed the easiest.

Let’s take a closer look, starting with the very top:

Agatha Christie collectionThis is my Agatha Christie collection. There are – as of June 2012 – 26 books in there, I think, and the 27th book is on its way. They’re mostly from the signature collection by Harper Collins but some of them are from various second-hand shops in London. I do prefer the signature edition (with a slightly larger font size they’re easier to read than the older copies and the covers look much better) but I’m not fussed even if my books don’t match.
