The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 13th and runs through Sunday, August 19th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 5.0 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. -From the Bout of Books 5.0 team
I can’t believe it’s time for another Bout of Books! I still remember my first BoB and I can’t believe it’s been almost a year! *wipes away a tear* I didn’t have much time during BoB 4.0 in May and I couldn’t really take part apart from the occasional Twitter chats so here’s to a successful week!
My goals
- Finish current read and read another book
- Chatting to all of you on ‘the Twitters’ and making new friends. (I’ve met some incredible people thanks to Bout of Books 2.0 and 3.0 who I’ve been in touch with ever since so I hope we’ll have just as much fun this time around)
- Take part in 2 Twitter chats – on Monday and Saturday
- Complete the challenges
- Visit fellow bloggers, comment on blog posts, wave pom-poms and cheer readers on.
Books to read
First I’d like to finish my current read, In The Woods by Tana French which I started yesterday. I’m quite a slow reader and it’s a pretty long book, plus I know for certain I’ll spend a huge amount of time on Twitter and lazing around so my goal is to read one more book this week: Watermelon by Marian Keyes. Marian’s new book is coming in September so I started re-reading the series from the very beginning, but I had to put it aside when Review Copy Cleanup started. But since I’ve been in some kind of a reading slump in the past few weeks and I already read 3 review books this month, I decided to take it easy this week and read my own books for a change.
Good luck to anyone who’s participating in BoB, happy reading and see you on Twitter!

Today was quite a successful day – I didn’t get as much reading done as I planned but I spent lots of time on Twitter and visiting other people’s blogs instead. I’m still reading the Tana French book which is incredible! Looking forward to another day of reading.

I’m actually quite proud of myself today – I sat down to read sometime after 4 p.m and kept going until midnight! I’m still reading the Tana French book (and will probably do so in the next few days because it’s very long) but I’m more than halfway through the story. I didn’t take part in any of today’s challenges because I’m rubbish at writing but I’ll make sure to check out your entries! Plans for tomorrow: reading another 100-150-ish pages and blog hopping!
Wednesday, August 15
Number of pages I’ve read today: 50
Total number of books I’ve read: 0

Today was a little bit of a slow day. I spent the whole afternoon replying to emails and such and then I had to go out so I only managed to read 50 pages. But I took part in two challenges and I’m hoping I’ll be able to finish this loooooooong (but fantastic!) book tomorrow.

Challenges: A Book For Every Season
This challenge is hosted by Kristilyn @ Reading In Winter and our task is to name the perfect book for each season of the year. The book can either have the name of the season in the title, or the book can take place in that specific season. The books I’m choosing for this challenge are:
Miracle on Regent Street by Ali Harris (winter)
Absent in the Spring by Mary Westmacott (spring)
The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants by Ann Brashares (summer)
The Shell Seekers by Rosamunde Pilcher (autumn)
Number of pages I’ve read today: 231
Total number of books I’ve read: 1
Blogs I commented on: 2
Challenges I completed: 2
Ole ole ole, I finished In The Woods! I didn’t have much energy for bloghopping today so I just curled up in my beanbag chair with a mug of tea and kept on reading. It was such a fantastic book! It’s definitely one of those novels that stay with you for a long time. *sighs* I’ll try to write my review before I start re-reading Watermelon so if you like crime fiction then keep an eye on my blog
Friday, August 17
Number of pages I’ve read today: 24 (BOOOOO!)
Total number of books I’ve read: 1
Blogs I commented on: 1
Challenges I completed: 0
Another slow and lazy day. Oh well. I spent the afternoon with writing my review of In The Woods, which you can now read by clicking here. Then I went for a walk and time just flew by, I guess. I managed to pick up Watermelon in the evening but I didn’t get to read more than 24 pages before midnight. I’m planning to finish it by Sunday evening, though – I only have about 150 pages left anyway so it should be easy.

Hey there Missy Lee! Wishing you ALL THE GOOD LUCK for yet another cracking summer read-a-thon! I still haven’t read any Tana French and it’s been YONKS since I read Marian Keyes – though I’m thinking about taking RACHEL’S HOLIDAY away with me. I’ve got a little mass market paperback so it’s perfect for suitcase fodder!
See you on the Twittery Verse, and come say hi if you get chance! If you catch me slacking you have my permission to whip me with a bookmark tassel until I stick my head back in a book.

Yes. *nods* I’ll keep poking you if you don’t sit down and read! And feel free to do the same if I’m lazing around
Oh, are you going away?
The Tana French book is BRILLIANT!!! Oh my GOD, I can’t tell you. Fantastic, fantastic Irish fiction.
Into The Woods has been on my TBR since I heard about it. How is it so far?
Good luck with your goals!

Good luck, Vicky! I’m a slowwwww reader as well but I’m still hoping by some miracle that I will complete 5 books this week. I tried to pick short books to increase my chances. Happy reading.

Hey there!
I actually think it’s totally okay to spend more time interacting than reading – especially during a Read-a-Thon! I love getting to know new people and blogs that way
Me too! And I always end up spending most of my time on Twitter anyway
It’s such a great way to meet fellow bloggers!
I’m glad you’re enjoying the Tana French book … it looks super good!
Good luck with your goals!
Enjoy your reading!

Yay Vicky! You’re doing well so far!
First off that book you are reading must be huge. If I sat down and read from 4 till midnight my brains will be toast
And I didn’t participate in any of Tuseday’s challanges either, I suck at poetry and didn’t have any inspiration to sit down and write anything. But today’s challenges were so fun. Especially the one where you have to find the words, I loved it.

Keep on reading!
Veronica Morfi recently posted..Bout of Books 5.0 Day 2
It is huge!
It’s almost 600 pages but the fact that it’s written in quite small print makes it even longer. Not that I’m complaining, it’s really good.
Yes, I’m the same! I’m rubbish at poetry but Amber’s word puzzle was great
It took me a while to find the last 3-4 words, though.
Good luck with your books. I haven’t read anything by Marian Keyes, but hear her books are good.

Well done on the progress!
We both had slow reading days yesterday – I feel better! The cuppa we shared really helped though.

I haven’t read the other three books, but Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is definitely the perfect summer read…I’m supposed to be rereading it this summer but haven’t got around to it yet!

Me too! And I’m having quite a good day today so I’m quite optimistic
Isn’t it a great book? I read it when the Hungarian edition first came out in 2004-ish and I know I loved it. I should probably re-read it as well but I don’t have time
Yay, good for you!
SOTTP was amazing! Have you read the others or just the first? I think I read 3 of them, although I own all four, and I bought the 5th one (takes place 10 years later) a couple months ago with a gift certificate I won. Have you seen the movies?
SweetMarie83 recently posted..Classic Book Review: Peter Pan by JM Barrie
I read 3 of them as well and saw the very first movie I think. (I didn’t like it as much as the book, though) Is there a fourth and FIFTH book????
*in utter shock*
ooh Into the Woods sounds creepy! Good luck and have fun
